The Character Stats in Fantasy Life are divided in Basic Stats, Combat Stats and Life Stats. Basic Stats are the ones that you can add points to at each level up and that directly affect the Combat and Life Stats.

As long as you are level 35 or higher and have completed the main story, you can visit the Tome of Shadows at night to reset your stat points for 30000 Dosh.

You can also reset your stats for free in your own home by purchasing the Demonic Mirror decor item. (Requires DLC)

Basic Stats

There are 6 basic stats in the game that influence your character in different ways. Every time you level up you receive 2 Stat Points (or 3 points if the level is a multiple of 10). The base value for each stat caps at 100 (50 without the DLC), being added to it the life and equipment bonus.

Each basic stat have a large influence in certain combat/life stats and a small influence in others:

Combat Stats

From the Basic Stats (including equipment and life bonus), the Combat Stats are calculated as the table shows, always truncating the decimal points:

Attack One-handed Sword = Strength + ((Focus + Dexterity) / 2) + Equipment Bonus
Two-handed Sword = Strength + Vitality + Equipment Bonus
Bow / Dagger = Dexterity + ((Strength + Focus) / 2) + Equipment Bonus
Staff / Unarmed = Strength
Defense = Vitality + Equipment Bonus
Magic Attack = (Intelligence x 1.5) + (Focus / 2) + Equipment Bonus
Magic Defense = Intelligence + Equipment Bonus

Life Stats

From the Basic Stats (including equipment and life bonus), the Life Stats are calculated as the table shows, always ignoring the decimal points:

Mining = Strength + ((Focus + Vitality) / 2) + Equipment Bonus
Woodcutting = Strength + ((Dexterity + Vitality) / 2) + Equipment Bonus
Fishing = Focus + ((Intelligence + Dexterity) / 2) + Equipment Bonus
Cooking = Focus + ((Dexterity + Intelligence) / 2) + Equipment Bonus
Smithing = Vitality + ((Focus + Strength) / 2) + Equipment Bonus
Carpentry = Vitality + ((Dexterity + Strength) / 2) + Equipment Bonus
Sewing = Dexterity + ((Intelligence + Focus) / 2) + Equipment Bonus
Alchemy = Intelligence + ((Dexterity + Focus) / 2) + Equipment Bonus
