Fred is Pam's grandfather. He is also known as the "Eternal Traveler". He has been on a lot of adventures throughout his life and once traveled alongside Gladstone Stone. He had spent his youth searching for Lunares Coins, amongst other things.
Fred will give you some Lunares coins. Eventually, he will decide to stick around in the Rocky Hill Shrine area of Origin Island and you will be able to exchange some of your silver Lunares Coins into gold coins through him. The first exchange made with him, he will initially ask for 5 silver coins, and you will be given the option to try and trick him out of the 5th coin, but the choice you make ultimately doesn't matter; he will always concede that 5 silver coins seems like too much, and decides to only take 4 silver coins from you for the 1 gold coin. From then on, Fred will always only require you to have 4 Silver Lunares Coins with you per exchange.
Fred states that he hasn't been home for a long time, so his friends and family had thought he was dead. He hesitates to let his grandchildren, Pam and her three sisters, know that he was in town for fear of being burdened with chores but plans to eventually go home when the time is right.
